The Church

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was founded in April 1830. Ten years previous, a young boy named Joseph Smith Jr. knelt down in a grove of trees in upstate New York (USA) and saw God the Father and Jesus Christ - two separate beings. While many people believe that the Church worships Joseph Smith, it does not and nor do I. It worships its namesake: Jesus Christ.

Soon after the Church was organized, its members became highly persecuted. This persecution resulted in the uprooting of its people who then travelled from the Eastern states to the Salt Lake Valley in Utah under the leadership of its second president, Brigham Young.

The Church's population has since grown considerably in size, diversity and geographical area. Today, there are over 14,000,000 members worldwide. I am proud to number myself among them.
